The Savannah Country Day School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Savannah Country Day School was founded in 1955 in Savannah, Georgia, with most of its pupils coming from the Pape School. The school's founding headteacher, Bob Trusdell, superintended the school's move from limited facilities on Drayton Street in Downtown Savannah to a new building on forty-five acres of land that Mr. Donald Livingston had given to Savannah Country Day. It remains in the White Bluff/Windsor Forest area of southside Savannah.
Though the school operates a lower and middle school, it is best known for its upper school. The Upper School has an enrollment of about 300 students with an average graduating class size of 75. The school has two student government bodies, The Student Council and The Honor Council.
The Honor Council helps keep Savannah Country Day an honest society. Therefore, a student is much more likely to get into serious trouble from lying, stealing, and cheating at SCDS than in any other school in the area. Because of the Honor Council, a student, for instance, could feel free the put personal belongings outdoors or in a locker without a lock on and expect them untouched after class.
As of the year 2007 the headmaster is Tom Bonnell; assistant headmaster/Upper School Principal is Chris Garten; the Upper School Dean of Students is Leigh Beauchamp and Upper School Guidance Counselor is Kathy Hodges.
