The Sangamon Star is a monthly humor newspaper published in Sangamon County, Illinois. Howard Tate is the publisher and editor. Thirteen issues of The Sangamon Star were printed until early 2007, when the paper became an on-line only publication. The newspaper's slogan is "Not Just Another @#$% Newspaper."

The paper doesn't really have regular features, but some past semi-regular features have included:

  • "The Honest Truth by George Codger, age 81": a column written by a grumpy old man who lauds the way things used to be and bemoans how things currently are.
  • "The Sunny Side by Pollyanna Hopewell": Pollyanna Hopewell is a determined optimist who wants to let everyone know just how good life is.
  • "Justin Smiff": Justin is a high school kid who, as punishment, is forced to write a monthly column for The Sangamon Star
  • "Ask Mr. Smartypants": Mr. Smartypants answers readers' questions in smartypants fashion. Rumor has it there's no question he won't answer.
  • "Steve Stevens-Travel": Steve Stevens is the travel writer for The Sangamon Star. He travels all over Sangamon County and reports his experiences.
  • "The Critical Critic": Kurt Vomact is the Critical Critic. He's pessimistically critical of pretty much everything.
  • "Mitch Conner Reports": Mitch Conner is The Sangamon Star 's beat reporter.
  • "Samantha!": A column in which Samantha Strumpher, a gadabout-about-town reports on the behaviors she witnesses of the fine citizens of Sangamon County. This column is accompanied by Samantha's cartoon, "Inner-Kitty", an autobiographical cartoon about her cat.
  • "Hilton Hightower"[2]: Half-man, half-robot, half-carnivorous ninja robot pirate poet who hates poetry and pretty much everything else that has, does, or will ever exist, Mr. Hightower is a misanthrope's misanthrope.
  • "B-Botz": Little drawings of robots that wander the pages of The Sangamon Star.
  • A teaser about an article on page 93. (There are only 8 pages to each issue.)
