[edit] The Saga

Years ago, The Demon Lord sent hordes of his minions and demon slaves to conquer the world of Crystalium. The King of Crystalium led his mightiest warriors in the fight against The Demon Lord in what would be the Chaos War. The king was killed. It was then, at Crystalium's darkest hour that the forces of Order sent the wizard Ogeode and the Prisma-crystal to drive away The Demon Lord's minions and the forces of Chaos.

It was then, just before he was vanquished that The Demon Lord told The Prophesy of Chaos. A time would come when he would send another of his servants to divide the planet against itself and bring ruin to all.

Months after the Chaos War ended, two princes, who were brothers, were visited by Ogeode, then Zardeth. Crystar and Moltar, had to decide to ally their people with Chaos or Order. Crystar chooses Order and its trusted champion, Ogeode. As Moltar was considering Chaos, their uncle, Feldspar, tried to convince Moltar that Chaos would be wrong. This angered Moltar, whom felt his uncle always favored Crystar. Enraged, Moltar engages Crystar in a fight and Feldspar gets injured in the process. Moltar leaves them for dead and eventually leads his followers to the Fountain of Fire to find the wizard, Zardeth and ally with Chaos.

Back at the Crystal Palace, as Crystar and Feldspar are dying, Ogeode suddenly appears. For Crystar to live, he must merge his life essence with the great Prisma Crystal. It is then, that Crystar's body takes a crystalline form.

At the Fountain of Fire, Zardeth magically transforms Moltar and his followers, imbuing them with the power of Lava. Moltar and his magma men then attempt a violent conquest of the city of Galax.

Ogeode alerts Crystar and his entourage of warriors of the magma men attack. Crystar's warriors felt that flesh and blood would prove ineffective in a fight against the forces of Chaos. Warriors: Koth, Stalax, and Kalibar volunteer to become crystal warriors for the forces of Order and to defeat the magma men.

The planet, Cystalium, has since been ravaged by war.

[edit] The Players

[edit] Order

  • Crystar - One of the twin princes of Crystalium. Leader of the crystal warriors for Order.

  • Ambara - Former valet to Lavour. During the conflict between the princes, Ambara and Crystar have developed a romace.

  • Warbow - Crystal warrior. Rank: Captain. Warbow shot Zardeth in the left eye with an arrow. Losing the Eye, but otherwise unphased by the injury, Zardeth shot arrow back to Warbow. The arrow took out Warbow's left eye in return which left him mortally wounded. Ogeode used the prisma-crystal on Warbow as he did on Crystar to save his life. Warbow secretly longs for Ambara.

  • Koth - Crystal Warrior. Rank: Captain. Has a risque sense of humor. "Trifled" with Ika, and asked Dr. Strange's man-servant Wong to "polish us." He also plays the flute.

  • Stalax - Crystal Warrior. Rank: Captain. Youngest of the crystar warriors. What he lacks in experience, he more than compensates with his heart and loyalty.

  • Kalibar - Crystal Warrior. Rank: Captain.

  • Ogeode - Wizard champion of Order. An elfin being with a bald head and white beard. Father of Ika, whom he willingly sacrificed to become a crystal being in an experiment to learn the secrets of the crystal warrior physiology. Frequently, Ogeode claims to be of diminished mystical ability and of little use to the crystal warriors, yet manages to perform mystical feats during crisis.

  • Ika - Half enchantress daughter of Ogeode. Ika was volunteered by her father to undergo a transformation to turn her body into crystal so that he may learn the secrets of the crystal warrior physiology.

[edit] Chaos

  • Moltar - One of the twin princes of Cystalium. Lava/rock-like guy. Leader of the magma men for Chaos.

  • Zardeth - Wizard leader of Chaos. Lost his left eye in an altercation with Warbow. He then took out Warbow's eye in return.

  • Lavour - Was betrothed to Crystar before the princes went to war. After she thought Crystar was dead, Lavour quickly allied herself with Moltar for the opportunity to become queen of Crystalium.

  • Magma Men - Similar to Moltar, but not as powerful.

[edit] Feldspar

  • Feldspar - The appointed regent of Crystalium since the death of his brother, the King of Crystalium. Uncle of Prince Crystar and Prince Moltar, Feldspar has taken authority over the planet until the princes have settled their conflict. He arranged for both Ogeode and Zardeth to alter his body into a partly crystalline and partly molten form to symbolize neutrality in their dispute.

[edit] Vehicles, Creatures, etc.

  • Crystal Dragon
  • Lava Dragon
  • Crystal Shatterpult
  • Lava Shatterpult
  • Crystal Castle - "The Ultimate Fantasy Fortress"

[edit] The Action Figures

In 1983 Remco produced the Crystar action figure line based on the comic book series. Crystar and the forces of order were made of crystal while Moltar and the forces of Chaos were made of lava. & figures, 5 mini playsets, 2 dragons and 1 castle were produced.

The Crystal Castle can be tough to find complete (as it is with most playsets). The Crystal Dragon's wings are very fragile, making a complete figure tough to find. A few different variations of the figures were included with the smaller playsets. There is also a MOC variation of Magma Man where he is packaged with a red whip rather than the curved orange mace.

  • Crystar and all of the characters in the toy line and comic book were actually created and owned by Marvel Comics, not Remco as widely believed. As revealed in Marvel Age #1, Marvel created the concept with the express intent to license it out to a toy company.
  • The cover of The Saga of Crystar, Crystal Warrior #8 features the skull logo used by the bands Samhain and Danzig.
