[edit] Plot Summary
The room. Though a definition of it has been established, its true meaning is still indescribable. It is the place in a person's head where they fall into a trance-like state, oblivious to anyone or anything around them. However, sometimes the room can be dangerous. People can be so caught up in their room that their mind becomes unstable and causes insanity. They will start to hear voices that tell them horrendous things. They will never want to leave their room, and when they do, even for a short time, they obey what the voices tell them to do.
This is what happened to serial killer Michael Dougan...and he now finds himself released from his room once again.
F.B.I. Agent Taylor Savior, who has seen way too much in the job, is thrown into the whole mess when he is called to investigate yet another murder by The Hatchet Man. Little does he know that finding the dead body of a fellow police officer is only the beginning of the terror.
[edit] Production
The shooting script of "The Room" was written and finalized in late 2005. Filming began in March, 2006, and continued into the early summer. After that, schedule's changed, the film was postponed and, at one point, considered for cancellation. Luckily, in January, 2007, production kicked back up once again and the film is expected to be completed by the summer.
[edit] Influences
A variety of movies have influenced the creation of this film, some references which can be seen throughout, including Scarface, Saw, Seven, Red Dragon, The Devil's Rejects, The Watcher, and Running Scared. Numerous directors have also inspired some angles and editing styles to fit the feel of the movie. Several named are Quentin Tarantino, Darren Lynn Bousman, Wayne Kramer, Mark Steven Johnson, Robert Rodriguez, Jack Roberts, and David Fincher.
[edit] Cast
The cast was not finalized until well after shooting began. The first permanent cast members were Brandon Rhea, John Anastasio, and Renée Stairs. All were Davies' first choices, approached directly for the parts. At one point, Adam Kishbauch was in line to play Taylor Savior. However, he had to drop out, and Chris Gardner signed on in his place. The second leading role, which Gardner had originally been considered for, was given to Pete Vazquez. The remaining parts were filled by Steve Rue and Conner Woods, both who worked with Davies on previous films in the past.
