[edit] The Competition from 2004-2006

This competition was formerly known as the Chortle Student Stand up comedian of the year from 2004 to 2006. It was sponsored by the comedy website Chortle during this time. However in 2007 it was decided to bring in a bigger sponsor so as the competition would have better funding and resources. Apart from the obvious funding reason it was made clear that the competitions sole aim is to find genuine comic talent within the student population that just doesn't make their friends laugh but who appeals to a wider audience and someone who will have a good career in comedy. Chortle has not totally bowed out they have taken up the duty of being the promoter.

[edit] Past Winners & Finalists

Although the competition is still in its infancy and there is a change of sponsor to date some of comedy's notable newcomers have featured in final shortlists. These include Lloyd Langford, Bullett and Gunn & Jarleth Regan
