The Remote Part released 2002 (see 2002 in music) is the third full-length album by Scottish band Idlewild.
Its much more commercial sound (when compared to previous releases) only ever aided it in becoming Idlewild's most successful album sales-wise yet. When released in July 2002, the album entered the UK album chart at number 3, behind only musical heavyweights the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Oasis.
The album continued to explore themes of identity and belonging, recurrent ideas in Idlewild's writing.
Four singles were released from the album; "You Held the World in Your Arms", "American English", "Live in a Hiding Place" and "A Modern Way of Letting Go".
At the end of the final song, "In Remote Part/Scottish Fiction", the Scottish poet Edwin Morgan recites a poem entitled Scottish Fiction which was written especially for this album.
The song "You Held the World in Your Arms" was used in the soundtrack to video game FIFA 2003 and the song "A Modern Way of Letting Go" was in the video game Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition.
