Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Aunt Sarah pays a visit to the Fisher & Diaz Funeral Home after witnessing her friend Fiona Kleinschmidt fall off of a cliff while hiking in the Canyon. Sarah feels grateful at first for having the chance to be with Fiona during "her final moments on Earth".

Meanwhile Ruth is getting George adjusted into his new apartment. Though George does not know it at the time, Ruth is planning to leave him as per her plan with her friends from knitting. George discovers that Ruth did not move any of her furniture or toiletries into the apartment. When Ruth tries to explain, she lies and says that she will be returning later. However after learning of Fiona's tragic death through Sarah, Ruth uses it as an excuse to escape from her pending separation. When George asks if he can comfort her and Sarah, Ruth implies that she will be fine and that Sarah's grief is only appropriate for immeadiate family. Later while eating dinner, Sarah becomes extremely intoxicated and begins to blame herself for Fiona's death. Sarah then begins sobbing as Ruth tells her that everything happens for a reason. Sarah shuns Ruth's theory and puts her head down.

David and Keith begin becoming adjusted to life with Anthony & Durrell, their newly adopted sons. The adoption however is far from what either expected. Durrell becomes increasingly irritating to Keith and begins creating trouble by refusing to accept Keith's help when their new PlayStation 2 breaks. When Durrell begins to bash living in "a stupid gay house", Keith drags Durrell into his room and holds the door locked. David walks in during this and asks Keith to stop. Keith refuses stating that the children "will walk all over you". Keith then releases the door and the boys fall on the floor. When a social worker visits, the boys continue to misbehave and fool around. Keith advises the social worker that the situation is not working out and that Durrell and Anthony do not belong here. When Durrell hears this he stops what he is doing to listen. The social worker believes that he and David are doing a fine job since she has encountered far worse scenarios.

Claire begins a job at the Braden Chemical Legal Department as a temp since she does not have any money and has been abandoned by her mother. Claire quickly discovers that the company is very conservative and that she must dress professionally. Claire is then forced to buy several new outfits and panty hose which become extremely uncomfortable by her second day. Claire meanwhile is awaiting confirmation regarding a grant from the California Arts Commission. Claire eventually reconciles with Ruth who is proud that she is now working and does not hate her as Claire had thought. When Claire finally receives her letter from the arts commission, she has been declined. Aunt Sarah witnesses this and tells her that she is probably not an artist anymore. Claire becomes upset at this since she truly believes she still is. Seeing no other future oppourtunities, Claire reluctantly seeks a more permanent position at the firm.

Vanessa hires live-in help Donna, a Canadian woman who becomes far than just a nanny. Instead of watching the kids, she asks Julio to help her tape an audition tape for Survivor and invites a homeless person into Vanessa's home to make him food. Vanessa discovers this and fires Donna on the spot. When Federico returns with the boys, she asks if he would like to move back in. Federico happily answers yes.

The following night of Fiona's death, her friends gather at the Fisher home for a memorial and a dinner in Fiona's honor. Bettina humorously suggests that they start an all woman colony after enjoying each other's company. Ruth agrees and takes the suggestion seriously. When Sarah and Bettina want to get high, Ruth borrows some marijuana and a bong from Claire's apartment. After Sarah, Bettina and Ruth get high in the Prep Room, Ruth removes the sheet from Fiona's body which Sarah then kisses. Sarah then begins to sing an inspirational song (Jane Siberry's "Calling All Angels") which the other women join her in. The next day at Fiona's funeral, Nate tells Ruth that he would like to take Fiona's body to the crematorium. Ruth then seeks out Sarah and Bettina who have already left and asks Dominique if they will still be going on a retreat. Dominique then pats Ruth on the back and declines. Ruth then drops off some pans at George's apartment where he tells her that he knows about her plan. George is grateful that she would help him get settled and rent him an apartment but tells her that he is disappointed yet accepting of her decision.

[edit] Deaths of the week

  • Fiona Lenore Kleinschmidt: (1952-2005) fell off a cliff while accompanying Aunt Sarah on a hike through Topanga Canyon.

[edit] Miscellanea

  • Continuity error: Countless times during this episode and episodes prior state Fiona Kleinschmidt's age as 32 when she deflowered Nate. However Fiona's title card states she was born in 1952 which would have made her 28 at the time of the incident since Nate was born in 1965.
  • This series returned to its old timeslot on Sunday night at 9pm starting with this episode.

[edit] Title reference

  • Writer Craig Wright described Sarah's explanation using "the rainbow of her reasons". [1]

[edit] Chronology

The episode's entry on the HBO site does not give a date but the episode supposedly spans 3 days. No month or date is given.

  • Angelica: This is L.A. everyone has live-in help.
