The Punisher War Journal is a comic book spin-off series of The Punisher. The first volume was published in November 1988 through July 1995, after running for 80 issues. The title did not differ from the main Punisher comic, and was launched in response to the Punisher's increasing popularity in the late 1980s.
In November 2006, Marvel Comics relaunched a second volume of The Punisher War Journal. It is being written as an ongoing series, bringing the character back to the Marvel Universe mainstream after years as part of the MAX imprint. In contrast to the current MAX title, the new war journal series has less adult themes and has the Punisher fighting against supervillains rather than his usual criminal antagonists. The first three issues deals with Marvel's Civil War event.
