The Precious, Wonderful, Adorable, Loveable Duckling

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This rather long-titled episode is one of season one of Courage the Cowardly Dog, featuring a duckling, believing Eustace to be his mother.

[edit] Plot

Courage finds an egg outside, and takes it home. Eustace wants to cook it, but a small black duckling comes out. As Eustace is the first person he sees, he believes Eustace to be his mother. He starts serving as Eustace's servant, doing everything for him, but he grows jealous of Muriel and Courage, believing he will get Eustace to like them more. He tries to kill off Muriel and often frames and torments Courage. Muriel is oblivious to its hostile plans. In the story's conclusion, the duckling attempts to blast Muriel into outer space by tying her to a rocket. However, the duckling's wing gets trapped inside the rocket. Courage manages to rescue Muriel, when Eustace bursts in. He runs to rescue the duckling and grabs onto it just as the two of them are pulled into outer space as the rocket blows up. On the Moon, Eustace and the Duckling live happily together. The duckling says this was the way it best turned out.

[edit] Trivia

  • This episode was misspelled on CartoonNetwork.com.
  • First appearance of the duckling. It makes several other cameo appearances (or a similar duckling).
  • Courage claims that he usually likes ducks, yet he has faced many evil birds, like the Chicken from Outer Space, Le Quack, the Duck Brothers and the Goose God. The Duck Brothers turned out to be friendly, but Courage still had to battle them.

[edit] Reaction

This episode is disliked by some fans because they find it very annoying and childish. Many were unhappy with Courage's claim to ordinarily like ducks. Some fans believe that the Precious Duckling should have appeared in Ball of Revenge.
