"The Power of Equality" is the first song of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' fifth major release, Blood Sugar Sex Magik. This song was featured in the game Tony Hawk's Underground 2. This piece of work has been interpreted as a protest against the inequality in the world's society, mainly America. Notable lyrics showing this point of view include American equality has always been sour/an attitude I would like to devour/my name is peace, this is my hour/can I get just a little bit of power? Unusually, the chorus is a duet between lead singer Anthony Kiedis and guitarist John Frusciante.

Often used to round off concerts, such as Live at Slane Castle, it was not actually included on their 2003 compilation Greatest Hits, or any other album other than Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

In the album version, there are two guitar tracks and a bass track. Unlike most other Red Hot Chili Peppers songs, none of the tracks are played in standard tuning. Instead, the guitars are in E flat, and Flea plays with an unusual dropped E flat.
