The Power is a 1956 science fiction novel by Frank M. Robinson. Its protagonist, a researcher named Tanner, discovers evidence of a person with psychic abilities among his coworkers. As he tries to uncover the superhuman, his existence is erased and his associates murdered, until he faces a showdown with an apparently undefeatable opponent.

The novel was made into a Studio One television episode and a 1968 film under the same name.

The Power is a 1998 remake starring Denzel Washington, Richard Gere, Dolly Parton, Dakota Fanning, Sterling Rogers, Lionel Washington, and features a cameo by both George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer. The film begins in Eugene, Oregon when presidential duo, Fitz Hugh (Washington) and Lace McKenzie (Parton) decide something must be done about the NBSOCTS (National Board of Special Olympics Caretakers Society). From there, we meet Kandace Tucker, a special needs child from Finland. Her sister, Latoya, played by Fanning, was injured when she was knocked in the head by a horseshoe at 4 and a half months.
