The Poliquin Principles

The Poliquin Principles: Successful Methods for Strength and Mass Development is a 1997 bodybuilding and strength training book by Charles Poliquin the former strength and conditioning coach of the Canadian Olympic team. The book contains a basic formatting of his training methods and regimens. Intended for the purpose of helping athletes to improve at their sport and non-athletes to gain muscle mass, it became a well-known work in its field.

The Poliquin Principles has been been described as being accessible to the beginner,[1] and also of use to the more advanced trainer.[2] The book was extremely well researched and contained references to studies done on several continents. In Amazon.com's editorial review they noted "From obscure European journals, he found a ton of information on such arcana as the speed at which an exercise should be performed and the amount of rest that should be taken between exercises."[1] Despite the emphasis on research and technical nature of much of the book Amazon.com gave it a positive review and summarized it as "... a serious training manual that's also a lot of fun to read."[1] Other reviews were positive overall,[2] but criticized the layout and poor photos which did not serve much illustrative purpose.[2]
