The Pleasure of My Company is a novel by Steve Martin, first published in 2003, which tells the story of the life of an obsessive compulsive and introverted young man named Daniel Cambridge. Daniel Pecan Cambridge Daniel is the book's protagonist. Daniel has obsessive-compulsive disorder, and has some bizarre tendencies, such as counting the number of squares he walks on. Daniel also falls for women easily, but finally meets the right one at the end.
Elizabeth Warner Elizabeth is a real estate agent that Daniel falls in love with from afar. However, he is unable to bring himself to approach her and eventually loses interest in her.
Zandy A pharmacist at the local Rite Aid who Daniel develops a crush on before he meets her. They eventually fall in love, get married, and have a child.
Daniel's grandmother Daniel's grandmother is a kind, wealthy woman who sends him letters and checks throughout the novel. She dies, forcing Daniel to take a trip to Texas and to inherit over $300,000.
Philipa Philipa is the intelligent and attractive actress who lives one flight of stairs above Daniel with her boyfriend Brian and her dog Tiger. She is one of Daniel's closest friends.
Brian Brian is Philipa's athletic boyfriend to whom Daniel is indifferent at first but eventually they become friends.
Clarissa Clarissa is a student studying to become a psychiatrist. She meets with Daniel once a week to evaluate him, but when he learns about her personal life, they become friends and cancel their professional relationship.
