[edit] Acts

The Phyrst is known by at least one person among Penn State University alumni[2] and the State College area for its Irish theme and patron involvement. The bar has been in existence for over forty years. [3]

The bar holds an open mic night[4], has a band every other night of the week[5], and is home to the decades old Phyrst Phamily band. The Dixie Lion Jazz Band has also appeared regularly at The Phyrst.[6] Patty Scoboria got her start at The Phyrst[7].

All the tables at The Phyrst are stamped with a unique large brass number. This has led to a tradition known as the Table Wars[8].

[edit] The Hanging Mugs

A personal mug[9] can be kept on reserve above the main bar.

[edit] The Phyrst Phamily Band

A long withstanding band and staple of the Penn State music scene, the Phyrst Phamily band has been together since 1969[10]. Membership of the band changes over the years but the spirit still remains the same. The band is known for their Irish tunes as well as involvement of the crowd on many songs such as the 'The Unicorn Song.'
