The Philosopher's Stone (「賢者の石」 Kensha no Ishi?) is episode 8 of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series originally aired 2003-11-22.
Anguished by the horrible consequences of Tucker’s new alchemic research, and disgusted at his first assignment, organizing Tucker’s research (including the malformed chimeric specimens), Ed considers deserting his new career with the State Military. Ed is told that Tucker himself was immediately executed, without a trial, because his guilt was so obvious.
Winry (who has arrived at Central to visit Ed and Al) is kidnapped by a butcher named Barry, who is disguised as a woman and calls himself Barry the Chopper. Barry also captures Ed as he tries to rescue her. However, Edward defeats Barry using alchemy, and almost kills him, before Alphonse arrives and stops him. Barry is taken away by the authorities. Before the episode ends, Ed is officially given his second name by King Bradley, the name "Full Metal".
