Pandawa or Pandava is drived from the Sanskrit word; पाण्डव Pandavah. Literally means the son of "Pāṇḍu" atau Pandu. In the Mahabharata tales, the Pandawa were the protagonists meanwhile the Korawa were the Antagonists with resentful and jelousy attributes.

The Pandawas connected with each other as brothers but came from two different mothers. The Goddess Kunti (Dewi Kunti) bore:

According to legend those five children came from the lineage of four distinctive gods of the Hindus. They were the personification and the begotten sons of:

  • Lord Yamaraja who bear Yudistira. He is the Lord of Wisdom and Justice
  • Lord Vayu who bore Bhima. He is the Lord of Wind
  • Lord Aswini (the twin Gods) who bore those two children Nakula and Sadewa, he is the Divine Physician

The story begins with the introduction of the parents of these brotherhood the antagonist was Duryudana/Duryodhana who happened to be the eldest brother of all 99 siblings known as the Korawas. He is the son of the blind king Destarastra (Dhritarashtra) and Gandari. The battle confrontation begins when Bima and the rest of his brothers played together with the Kurawas, he love to tease and trick them which caused distress and later on dissatisfaction and resentfulness. One day Duryudana started to think about his insecurity and discomfort against the five brothers and plotted to overthrown them from being the lord of Kuru.

The plot began when Destarastra appointed his nephew Yudistira as the crown prince out of his own son. This has caused Duryadana madness and he planned to kill all those five brothers together with their mother Kunti. He offered them to go to a placa called Ekacakra a place set by Duryadana for them with a huge building in it. His idea was to burn them alive during their slumber at night. Luckily the plan was discovered by Widura who happens to be the uncle of those five brothers, in fact Yudistira had been warned about this plot by a hermit who came to him telling about a disaster that would inflict him in the future. Later the Pandawas fled the place and ran into the woods.

During the fled they five brothers heard about a competition in the Kingdom of Pancala which offers a marriage with the princess named Draupadi as it prize. Arjuna who was a good archer enter the competition and won the princess. He then took her to his mother but his mother asked her to marry all of them instead.

When Destarastra heard that these five brothers did not die in the inferno invited them to his kingdom and granted them with the gift of half the lands of his kingdom. They successfully built up a great city call Indraprastha. The resentful Duryadana returns and planned on building a greater city than of Indraprasta. He also conspired a another plot in order to vanquish Yudistira and this time he made Yudistira fell into his trap and was excommunicated for fourtheen years. During this time Yudistira planned on taking his revenge against this mighty villain which later on lead to a huge revolt againt Destarastra.
