Edward and Alphonse make another detour on their way to report to Colonel Mustang, and travel to Xenotime. Ed has a theory that the run-down former gold-mining town might be attempting to transmute gold with a philosopher’s stone. Indeed, they are, with the help of two young alchemists who also claim to be “the Elric brothers.” The impostors are working with Mugwar to create a philosopher’s stone, but their attempts appear to be affecting the health of the town’s residents.
