"The One With The Red Sweater" is the second episode of the eighth season of Friends.

Monica and Chandler, newlyweds, check out of the bridal suite at the hotel; arguments with the front desk develop when Joey's clandestine purchases of pornography show up on the bills. Monica is depressed at the idea of no longer being a bride, only someone's wife, but is cheered at the prospect of wedding photos: Chandler, anticipating the several-week wait for the official photos, passed out disposable cameras. Unfortunately, Ross, who was supposed to be in charge of them, never got the message, and they appear to have been lost.

Back in Monica's apartment, Phoebe and Monica counsel Rachel, who in The One with Monica and Chandler's Wedding, Part 2 was revealed to be pregnant. Rachel makes plans to tell the father that night, but refuses to reveal who it is. When Joey finds out, he leads the detective work in uncovering the episode's titular red sweater, which was left in Joey's apartment a month ago. Joey is sure it belongs to the father. Phoebe identifies it as belonging to Rachel's recently-dumped boyfriend Tag. She sets him up to meet Rachel at Central Perk, but Rachel tells her that he's not the one (especially since he's wearing his red sweater); his attempts to rekindle their romance are likewise derailed by news of her baby.

Joey, who is brought into the situation on a hypothetical basis, at first believes Phoebe is pregnant when she lies about it to cover Rachel; he then proposes to her, and she accepts. Later, when it's revealed that Rachel's the one who's expecting, he proposes to her as well. She gracefully declines, and Phoebe, though hurt, deigns to take him back.

Chandler and Ross scramble around the hotel trying to find the cameras; eventually they decide to fake some new ones by sneaking into another wedding party in the same hotel, resulting in Chandler stealing a kiss from the bride and then fleeing the scene. Monica, back at home, is supposed to wait for Chandler's return before opening their wedding gifts, but is cannot resist the tempation; by the time he shows with the fake pictures, she has savaged them all. The fakes, especially the one of Chandler's first kiss "with, with this lady," go awry when Monica reveals the cameras were in their luggage the whole time, but she fails to hide the wreckage of the wedding presents, and the two decide to "call it even" to thunderous applause.

Ross also heads back to his apartment... But not after noticing his red sweater on a side table. "I've been looking for this for like a month!" Phoebe and Monica, in unison: "Oh my God!" Joey, who requires a little longer to work through the information: "...Oh my God!"
