"The One With the Hypnosis Tape" is the eighteenth episode of season three of the television situation comedy Friends.

Everyone's tired of Chandler's smoking, so Rachel gives him a hypnosis tape to listen to as he sleeps. Unfortunately, the tape is meant for women. As a result, he starts acting in a very feminine manner. Joey hears the tape one night, and makes a couple of edits of his own inserting a few sublimal messages requesting $100's worth of pants and a fresh sandwich everyday from Chandler.

Phoebe gets a visit from her brother, Frank Jr. Frank has an announcement - he's getting married. Phoebe's thrilled until she learns that his fiancee, Alice, is his former home economics teacher - who's 26 years older than the 18 year old Frank. Worried about the age difference, Phoebe enlists the help of Joey and Ross to try and talk him out of it (Joey using the ultimate punch-line: "You're 18, okay? She's 44... When you're 36, she's gonna be 88!"). When that doesn't work, she tries to talk to Alice. This works briefly, until she sees how much Frank and Alice care for each other.

One of Monica's regular customers at the diner, a man named Pete, keeps asking her out - but she keeps refusing. In order to get her attention, Pete leaves her a tip of $20,000. Chandler then points out that her suitor is Pete Becker, a multimillionaire computer software mogul. Monica storms into Pete's office, angry that he would try to buy her off. Pete explains that he was just trying to get her to go on one date with him. Monica agrees, and Pete takes her out to pizza... in Italy.

[edit] Trivia

• Alice is being played by Debra Jo Rupp who is one of the main actors in That 70's Show (Kitty Forman). In this episode Chandler calls Joey a "dumbass" which is the favourite adjective used by Red Forman - Kitty's husband.
