[edit] Plot
Ross meets a very pretty and smart girl on a train. The only problem is that she lives in Poughkeepsie, which is more than two and half hours away. He then meets another girl who lives close by but is not as fun as the first one. Somewhat tired from the constant commute to Poughkeepsie, Ross takes Phoebe's advice on the matter, but his problems only continue to multiply.
Depressed that she doesn't have a boyfriend during the holidays, Rachel is so desperate that she is willing to even have a fling and agrees to be set up with one of Chandler's co-workers. While trying to determine who Rachel should go out with (and receiving bribes when the guys find out that it's "hot Rachel"), Chandler mentions that Rachel is only interested in a fling, which makes her upset. When he tries to fix the situation by telling them she wants a serious relationship, he of course only makes it worse. "You IDIOT!" she shouts, and he replies "I'm sure you're right, but why?!"
Monica's new job as head chef at Alessandro's is not going well as the rest of the staff don't like her. To help Monica establish her authority, Joey takes an idea from Orson Wells (whom he thinks directs Burger King commercials) and agrees to be hired and then publicly fired. But when Joey sees how much money he can make in tips, helping out Monica doesn't seem to be the most important thing anymore. He gets along well with the staff and even comes up with a new 'work name' - Dragon. But when he realises what hardships Monica has to undergo because of the others, he purposefully talks back to Monica and lets her fire him.
Phoebe is working on a holiday song that mentions everyone in the gang. While she has little trouble rhyming some names (Joey and snowy, Monica and Hanukkah), she struggles to rhyme either Chandler or Rachel. Eventually her song ends up as:
- Went to the store, sat on Santa's lap
- Asked him to bring my friends all kinds of crap
- He said "all you need is to write them a song"
- They haven't heard it yet, so don't try to sing along
- No, don't sing along...
- Monica, Monica, have a happy Hanukkah
- Saw Santa Claus, he said hello to Ross
- And please tell Joey, Christmas will be snooo-ooo-wwyyyy!
- And Rachel and Chandler, have (mumbles something that ends in -andler, sort of)
- Happy holidays, everyone!
