[edit] Plot

The show begins with Joey giving the others their bill, but letting an attractive lady get off without paying, in exchange for a date, which the others express their disgust at, but Phoebe changes her tune when Joey offers her a free scone.

The main part begins with Monica being sent home from work for being sick, from something which she's in denial. A knock at the door interrupts and confuses the gang and it turns out to be Rachel's sister Jill, who has been cut off (for buying a boat for a friend), prompting Chandler to say "looks like we made friends with the wrong sister", and sent to the city by their father to "learn the value of money".

At Central Perk, Gunther admonishes Joey for giving away free food by taking the cost out of his tips, to which Joey asks "if it's free food, how come you're charging me for it?". Gunther then informs him that only it being someone's birthday entitles them to something free.

Meanwhile, Jill has been busy shopping, using the credit card her father pays for (the exact same thing Rachel did in the first episode of them all), but she is caught by Rachel and, when Ross and Phoebe are unable to cover for her, the shopping is confiscated, apart from one small bag, which Ross hands to Jill, much to her amusement. Ross and Jill then start to flirt, until Phoebe sits between them, to make them both stop.

Back at Monica and Chandler's, Monica is poorly, but is acting as if nothing is wrong with her. She tries to seduce Chandler, who is having none of it.

Phoebe, after meeting up with Rachel at their apartment, passes on her observations from earlier, which completely freaks Rachel out.

Joey encounters the attractive lady from the previous day and makes out it's her birthday so she doesn't have to pay again.

Rachel and Jill talk about the previous night and Jill states that Ross isn't her type, prompting Rachel to list his good qualities and Jill then decides to ask him out, if it means that much to Rachel.

Monica is still trying to get Chandler into bed with her, but he still resists her charms!

Gunther gets mad at Joey for handing out yet another free muffin to a beautiful girl under the pretence that it's her birthday. He refuses to listen to Joey's story, banning him from distributing birthday muffins.

Ross speaks to Rachel about Jill; he wasn't actually thinking of asking her out, but now he knows she thinks it's okay, he decided to go out with her.

Monica now admits that she is sick and asks Chandler to rub Vap-o-Rub onto her chest. Chandler flatly refuses, seeing it as as a continuation of the scheme from earlier. Monica then takes off her robes and rubs it on herself, which turns Chandler on. She acts disgusted, but is happy that she got him to sleep with her in the end.

Jill and Ross meet at the coffee house for their date, but Rachel is there. There is an awkward silence, before Ross makes a jest and leaves with Jill. Rachel fake-laughs and breaks down after they leave.

Rachel goes to Monica and Chandler's and looks across the street at Ross' apartment, just as Monica and Chandler appear from the bathroom, having apparently "experimented" with the Vap-o-Rub. Rachel then sees Ross return to the apartment with Jill - and he closes the drapes...
