[edit] Plot
After getting an excruciating massage from Monica, Chandler doesn't tell her because he doesn't want to screw up their relationship by telling the truth. When Phoebe, as a masseuse and human, asks Monica to never give a massage again, Chandler reluctantly tells Monica that her massages are painful. When the two are alone (their relationship is still secret, except for Joey and Rachel), Monica starts to cry because she has to be the best at everything. Chandler comforts her by telling her that she gives the best bad massages and that, if there were an award for the best bad massage, it would be called The Monica.
Joey is trying to look suave for an upcoming audition by wearing a top hat and decides to have Rachel help him after everyone laughs at his hat. Rachel completes Joey's ensemble with a unisex (which Joey misconstrues as Rachel saying "You need sex," then thinking she's hitting on him when she spells it out, to Joey sounding like "You and I sex") hand bag, which Joey falls in love with. Even though Ross and Chandler mock his new accessory, Joey counters that the bag has multiple compartments for his wallet, keys, and sandwiches. Joey's audition doesn't go well, as he is reluctant to put the bag down and talks about it so much that the director believes that he sells the bags. Crushed that he didn't get the job, Rachel cushions the blow by suggesting that the world simply isn't ready for Joey and his bag while Chandler suggests that Joey use a less controversial bag, like a wallet.
Phoebe sets up a memorial service for her grandmother, who had just died. At the memorial service (complete with 3D glasses), an unexpected guest arrives: Phoebe's father, Frank Buffay, who abandoned Phoebe, her twin sister Ursula, and their mother, Lily, when Phoebe was very young. Seeing Phoebe's reaction to his name (There is also an audible gasp from the studio audience.), Frank runs away, but Phoebe convinces him to meet with her by pretending that she is the executor of her grandmother's estate. The two meet at Central Perk, and Frank learns that Lily died 17 years ago and that Phoebe is one of his daughters. Frank tries to apologize saying that he was a bad father, even though the song he sang to little Phoebe and Ursula had the same tune as "Smelly Cat." Phoebe smiles but is not yet able to fully forgive him. Phoebe calls Ursula to tell her that she found their dad, but Ursula wrongly thinks that their dad is John Glenn and is suing him for not being around when she and Phoebe were growing up.
