[edit] Plot

Monica and Ross's parents are having their 35th wedding anniversary party. Monica asks Ross if she can give the speech this time, determined to make the guests cry like her brother does year after year.

The gang get to meet Phoebe's new boyfriend Parker. They find his enthusiasm a little hard to take, and use the first opportunity to make fun of him - unfortunately in Phoebe's hearing. She points out that none of them have exactly perfect dating records, and they should give Parker a chance. Joey later apologizes for the group, but she reveals that Parker's constant optimism is beginning to grate on her too.

Rachel and Ross discover that Ross's parents have told all their friends that they got married. Although they aren't keen on the idea at first, once people start giving them money as wedding presents, Rachel gets rather carried away with the details, claiming that a dove placed the ring on her finger and Stevie Wonder sang at the service in Barbados. Ross reveals how he was planning to propose when they were together - in the auditorium where they had their first date, filled with lilies (her favorite flower), with the stars spelling out his proposal.

Monica's toast unfortunately does not go to plan and is not quite as well received as she'd hoped. She resorts to invoking the names of dead relatives and family pets, even going so far as to mention Terms of Endearment, but nobody cries. After she's finished, Judy asks Ross to do an impromptu speech - and he manages to make everybody cry.

Sick of Parker's overwhelming enthusiasm, Phoebe tries and fails to tone him down, and breaks up with him.

[edit] Quotes

Phoebe: Your collective dating record reads as a who's who of human crap!

Phoebe: No, I'm a positive person. You are like Santa Claus, on Prozac... At Disneyland... getting laid!
