"The One Where Rachel Tells..." is the third episode of season eight of the television situation comedy Friends.
First aired: October 11, 2001
[edit] Plot
Rachel tells the rest of the Friends that she plans on telling the father of her baby. With the exception of Chandler they know already that the father is Ross, and Chandler starts talking in a high pitched voice when he finds out. Monica is especially excited since she will be the baby's aunt.
Ross comes by Joey and Rachel's apartment. Joey and Phoebe tell him she was looking for him and it seemed important. Ross says he thinks he knows what this was about. He tells them that about a month ago, he and Rachel slept together. This is of course not news to Joey and Phoebe, and they know even more than Ross does at that moment.
Rachel is waiting for Ross outside his apartment, and finally tells him the news, that she's pregnant and the baby is his. Ross does not understand how it could have happened since they used a condom. Rachel tells him condoms are only effective 97% of the time. Ross says they should put it on the box, and when he looks at the box he says they should put it in "HUGE BLACK LETTERS!" He decides to call the condom company to give them a piece of his mind since he is "indignant as a consumer!"
When Ross tells Phoebe and Joey about Rachel's pregnancy they are once again not surprised. Joey is however surprised by the news of the effectiveness of condoms and takes a long string of them out of his pocket to look.
Ross accompanies Rachel to her doctor's appointment. Rachel insists that Ross stay near her head. The doctor shows them the ultrasound. Rachel claims to the doctor she can see the baby but then tells Ross that she can't see it.
Monica and Chandler are headed off on their honeymoon. Another honeymooning couple keeps showing up right before they do and end up with perks like first class and the honeymoon suite, not making Monica happy.
Joey and Phoebe need to get inside Monica and Chandler’s apartment while they are gone- Phoebe left her guitar and Joey needs food. But Monica made them give up their keys when Joey made a mess the last time they went out of town. So they made up a story about a gas leak to get Mr. Treeger to let them in, thinking he’d just use his key, but they didn’t count on the door being broken down by the fire department. So they call Monica and Chandler and tell them the gas leak story to explain why their door was broken down.
