[edit] Plot

Ross sees a beer commercial with a monkey in it, and is reminded of his old pet monkey, Marcel. Wondering how Marcel is doing, he travels to San Diego to visit. When he gets there, however, zoo manager Mr. Lipson tells him Marcel has died. As he's readying to leave, a zookeeper tells him that Marcel was actually stolen from the zoo, forced into show business - and currently filming a movie in New York.

Joey gets his first piece of fan mail - which turns out to be from a stalker, Erika Ford. He goes to confront her, and learns she thinks he is actually his Days of Our Lives character, Dr. Drake Ramoray, and that the soap opera is Joey's real life (to the point that when she sees her beloved 'Drake' making out with a patient, she goes enraged to Joey's apartment to demand an explanation). They wind up dating for a short time, until Joey realises she's too crazy for his liking. So he tells her he's actually Drake's evil twin brother, Hans, which gets her to leave him alone.

Phoebe is hired to sing songs for kids at the local library. She starts dating the man who hired her, Rob Donnen - but he ends up firing her because parents complained her songs are too real. After her firing, the kids venture to Central Perk to hear her sing - they loved her realistic songs.

During the credits, Phoebe teaches Rob how to play Smelly Cat.

[edit] Trivia

  • Executives at NBC were very impressed with Brooke Shields' guest turn as Erika in this episode - so impressed, in fact, they created the sitcom Suddenly Susan for her based on her performance.

[edit] Quotes

  • (When discussing playing for the kids)
Phoebe: Maybe if I just picture them all in their underwear.
Rob: That's not a good idea. That's kind of the reason the last guy got fired.
  • Joey: Hey guess what I got!
    Chandler: Rhythm? (I Got Rhythm)
  • Kid: Excuse me, is this where the singing lady who tells the truth ?
Pheobe: Yeah, i guess that's me.
    Kid (calling out): She's here!!
(a group of kids run into Central Perk).

[edit] Lyrics to Grandma

Now grandma's a person who everyone likes
She brought a train and a bright shiny bike
But lately she hasn't been coming to dinner
And last time you saw her she looked so much thiner.

Now your mom and your dad said she moved to Peru
But the truth is she died
And some day you will too.
