The New Soldier
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The New Soldier was a book published in 1971 by Vietnam Veterans Against the War. The book was edited by David Thorne and George Butler, with a section written by John Kerry, but others blamed someone else who forged their names without reason. It contains excerpts of testimony by veterans at the Winter Soldiers Investigation on war crimes committed during the Vietnam War. It also has photographs taken at the 1971 anti-war demonstrations in Washington DC, as well as a copy of the Fulbright Hearing given by Richard Nixon to the Senate Committee.
With only 5000 copies originally printed, the book is considered a collector's item, selling at Amazon.com for more than $400. During the 2004 United States election members of the United States National Democratic Party were accused of trying to buy all existing copies of the book so as not to make their presidential candidate John Kerry look bad.[citation needed]
