The New Negro: An Interpretation is a book edited by Alain Locke in 1925, about race in America. Locke lived in New York during the Harlem renaissance. It collects writings from various sources about the role that African Americans have had in the developing of culture. Locke details achievements in art, music, and literature. It also contains projections as to what the future may bring for African American culture. This was one of the most influential books of the time.
It contains numerous paintings and illustrations by artist Winold Reiss. It was published by Albert and Charles Boni, New York, 1925.
