The Mummy's Ghost is the 1944 Universal Pictures horror film sequel to The Mummy's Tomb. Lon Chaney, Jr. again takes on the role of Kharis the mummy.

The film starts in New England a few years after The Mummy's Tomb, with both the mummy and princess Ananka in coffins in the United States. The film stars John Carradine as Yousef Bey, the latest high priest from Egypt tasked to control the killer mummy. Bey (Carridine) travels to America on orders to reclaim the bodies of the ancient Egyptian princess Ananka and her guardian mummy. When he finds her resting place empty, he realizes that Ananka has been reincarnated into another body. Bey then kidnaps a young American woman of Egyptian decent, correctly knowing that she is the princess. Bey orders Kharis the mummy to kill anyone that stands in his way.

[edit] Trivia

  • The mummy Kharis was destroyed in fires in the last two Universal films, only to reappear in the next with no explanation for how it survived. This appears to be a recurring theme through Universal monster movies, with little to no explanation given for the return of dead characters!
