The Misanthropic Bitch

The Misanthropic Bitch (TMB) is a personal blog maintained by a person who refers to herself by the same title. Although originally referred to as a zine, TMB represents one of the earliest online personal blogs, having originally appeared in 1997. One of her most widely-known quotes is "Nothing can make one a misogynist faster than being born a woman."[1]

The concept of TMB is a 19-year-old journalism major (in 1997)[2], and self-described misanthropic bitch who comments on current events, society, politics, pornography, etc. The vast majority of the writing is presented as being unapologetically controversial. The website is deliberately non-politically correct, with TMB expressing iconoclastic views geared specifically against what would be considered societal norms. In particular, the most recurring theme she steadfastly maintains is her antipathy toward children and parenthood. She states that she does not like children or ever intend to have any, opines that society places an irrational emphasis on children and parenthood, criticizes Megan’s Law for de-emphasizing parental responsibility[3], and excoriates pregnant teenagers as "poster children for forced euthanasia"[4]. She also claims to have almost undergone a tubal ligation, which her doctor refused to perform as she was "too young" (doctors generally will not perform this procedure on women under a certain age who have not yet had children)[5].

TMB has openly mocked much-beloved public figures after their deaths, such as John F. Kennedy Jr.[6], Mother Theresa[7] and Lady Diana, whom she regarded as a "pathetic slut"[7][8]. She has leveled criticism at Terri Schiavo's parents and their advocates for their treatment of Michael Schiavo[9], has criticized various aspects organized religion in general, and the Catholic Church in particular[10] [11] [12], has criticized PETA [13], opined that the suing of tobacco companies ignores the fact that cigarettes were long-known to be healthy since the late 1800's [14], has indicated that she is against affirmative action because it is little more than "hand-holding", [15] and has written articles satirical of homophobia [16] and creationism [17].
TMB has advocated legalized pornography[18], legalized abortion [19], removing the words "Under God" from the American Pledge of Allegiance[20], and the return of Elian Gonzalez to his father in Cuba in 2000[21].

TMB was evicted from shutdown.com, her original web server, by the administrator after a personal disagreement regarding the 9/11 attacks[7]. The most productive period for the blog was from its inception until 2001, and updates have noticeably declined in recent years.
TMB also maintains a mailing list which covers unusual news stories, although this has also not been updated in some time.
