The Metro (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Metro" is a song originally sung by Berlin and released on their album Pleasure Victim in 1982. Terri Nunn said the song, which was the first single of Berlin, "defined us and defined that period of music".[1]

A hard-rock version was performed by System of a Down for the Dracula 2000 soundtrack and for the Not Another Teen Movie soundtrack.

An acoustic version was made available exclusively on iTunes.

It has also been covered by Alkaline Trio, +44 (Live only), Sleepthief and Bella Morte.

[edit] System of a Down version

The Metro was System of a Down's first cover as it was preformed in 1995 on their Untitled 1995 Demo Tape. This version of the song was slowed to a crawl and had a dark moody sense of playing. The song was once again re-done during their Self Titled Recording sessions in 1997 and was less moody and more true to the original song as it was sped up but not quite up to the final versions par. The final version was sped up greatly and Daron Malakian lent his vocals in some parts. An unofficial video was made and is available on their web site. Daron has said on many occasions that the song could have been done better and whether this means a new version is unknown.

[edit] Alkaline Trio version

This version of the song keeps the original pace of the 80's song as well as kept the Trio's punk melody within the song.
