The Medium is the student-run entertainment newspaper of Rutgers University. Its goal is to provide a quality source of entertainment, though it has often been the object of criticism due to its politically incorrect nature. The paper's tagline refers to itself as "The Entertainment Weekly of Rutgers University."
As a result of frequent attacks on their right to print offensive material, the editors and contributors of The Medium have turned the paper into an exercise in the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which includes the right to a free press. Nearly all protests against The Medium have been largely ineffective because of the broad rights granted to a newspaper with regards to content.

[edit] Sections:
[edit] News
The first section of The Medium used to be after Opinions, before the staff decided that having the News section first would make more sense. Most articles are presented in a fictitious format, parodying actual Rutgers and world news.
[edit] Opinions/Editorials
The Opinions section has the Editor in Chief's weekly address, and also editorial essays from Rutgers students. This section was made famous by Mike Gammariello, the editor in Fall 2006. His genius has caused delayed after effects on pregnant women and their unborn children.
[edit] Features
Features includes no consistent content and has been known to include pornographic pictures and some articles with no factual information.
[edit] Arts
Crosswords, art reviews and cartoons are in this one (usually) page section.
[edit] Personals
Anonymous messages are printed in newspaper classified style, allowing students to freely criticize Rutgers administration, other students, and national establishments.
[edit] What's Shakin'
The back cover of The Medium has events occurring in at and around Rutgers, and is also home to jokes, brain teasers and other odd-man-out content.
[edit] Ask Madd Mike
This is a weekly (usually) advice column in the features section. It is a Q and A type column starring the Medium's most high profile star, Madd Mike. He has saved many a lives because of his advice.
[edit] History of The Medium
The Medium was founded in 1970(First Issue printed on September 1st 1970) as the campus newspaper of Livingston College. During the 1980s, the newspaper began to abandon its newsgathering and reporting activities in favor of its current "entertainment" format, due to the The Daily Targum spreading across all of the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses.
