[edit] History

The Mayfield Four was formed in the middle of 1996 in Spokane, Washington by four childhood friends that shared a mutual love for music. They were Myles Kennedy (lead vocals - lead guitar), Craig Johnson (rhythm guitar), Marty Meisner (bass guitar), and Zia Uddin (drums). That year, they recorded a demo called Thirty Two Point Five Hours which caught the attention of numerous music industry professionals and subsequently Epic Records.

Once under contract with Epic, they released a live EP called Motion in 1997. In May of the following year they released their first full-length studio album called Fallout. The album was praised by critics, and the band went on a 15-month promotional tour opening for Creed, Everclear and Fuel.

However, the album failed to chart and Johnson left the band (other sources say he was fired. Kennedy just said "we simply went through a lot of behind-the-scenes changes both personally and professionally"). The band continued as a trio, with Kennedy solely on guitars. After the tour ended, the three remaining members secluded in Kennedy's basement studio to write and record in preparation for their next album.

Their second album, Second Skin, was released in 2001 and the band went on the road again, this time with Alessandro Cortini helping them with rhythm guitar. Stagnant sales of Second Skin due to failed promotional and marketing efforts forced the band to end their relationship with Epic in 2002. The band formally split shortly after in order to pursue other interests. All of the members are currently involved in other projects. Most prominent is Kennedy's participation with former Creed members in the band Alter Bridge. Kennedy is the lead vocalist for Alter Bridge. He also plays rhythm guitar while on tour.
