The Man from Colorado is a 1948 American western movie directed by Henry Levin and starring Glenn Ford and William Holden.

The exposition scene begins with a battle at the end of the American Civil War. Union Col. Owen Devereaux (Glenn Ford) orders his regiment to open fire on the surrendering Confederates consisting of about 100 men. After investigating the ruins, the Colonel notices a white flag laying on the ground, previously used in the act of surrendering, and hides it under a corpse so that it will not be spotted.
In camp that night, news is received that the war is over with the treaty at Appomattox Court House A soldier, Sgt. Jericho Howard (James Millican), gets drunk and is insubordinate to the Colonel. To restore order and discipline, the Colonel has him arrested and disarmed. There is a ball in town that the entire regiment attend, with the exception of Jericho and two soldiers order to guard him. With everyone gone, Jericho pulls a gun from the soldiers, steals a horse, and escapes.
With the war over, the colonel becomes a federal judge with his friend, Cpt. Del Stewart (William Holden), as his marshall. Meanwhile, Jericho turns to being an outlaw, recruiting former soldiers who are sore over losing their land from being absent from their land for more than 3 years. They raid a gold mine, owned by the aristocrat Big Ed Carter (Ray Collins). New federal judge Owen threatens to hang Jericho's brother, Johnny Howard (Jerome Courtland), if Johnny does reveal information about Jericho's whereabouts. Marshall Del Stewart knows that is injust, and travels to meet Jericho to convince him to turn himself in to save his brother. Jericho agrees, but upon their return they spot Johnny dead hanging from a tree limb. Del confronts Owen, but his friend is too absorbed with his power to listen to reason. Unwilling to work with the cruel man any longer, Del discards his Marshall's pin and runs away to join Jericho's band of outlaws.
