The Lovely Ladies
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lovely Ladies is an unnamed African vocal trio featuring Tawatha Agee, Cindy Myzell, and Brenda White-King. The trio is best known for providing backup vocals on tour with the Dave Matthews Band. The Ladies' first collaboration with the Dave Matthews Band was in 1998, when they provided backup vocals for the song "Stay (Wasting Time)" on the album Before These Crowded Streets.
The Ladies guested with Dave Matthews Band during two shows on their 1998 tour, singing backups for "Stay" on both nights. Due to the popularity of their two performances, the Ladies were brought back for a handful of shows during the band's 1999 and 2000 tours. The Ladies provided backups for many more songs, including the band's "JTR," Boyd Tinsley's "True Reflections," and a cover of Lefty Frizzell's "Long Black Veil." The 1999 CD/VHS/DVD release of the band's Listener Supported featured a live performance from the Continental Airlines Arena from September 11, 1999. The Ladies were featured on the release singing backup vocals for the band during "#36," "True Reflections, "Granny," "Stay," and "Long Black Veil."
After Dave Matthews Band's release of Everyday in 2001, the Ladies were once again invited to perform on the band's tour; however this time they were featured during every show on the band's Summer 2001 Tour. The Ladies sang vocals on many songs, mostly off of the band's new release, most notably "I Did It," "The Space Between," and "Angel." Another concert was recorded for a live album and video release that summer on July 11, 2001. The album Live at Folsom Field was recorded in Boulder, CO and featured many songs from the band's newest album at the time.
The Ladies have not performed with Dave Matthews Band since August 28, 2001, the final date of the summer tour that year.
