The Love Drunks (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Love Drunks are a rockabilly and punk influenced garage band from Atlanta, GA.
Formed by guitarist Michael Holler in the spring of 2004, The Love Drunks took the basics of garage-punk inspired by The White Stripes, Von Bondies and Iggy Pop and spun it with "southern fried" rockabilly.
The band started when Michael Holler and Dan Caycedo (ex-singer for hardcore band Leechmilk) began jamming together at Black Box, a popular rehearsal space in Atlanta's bohemian district Little Five Points.
Trying to form a female fronted blues-garage band in the vein of PJ Harvey, Holler and Caycedo tried many female singers until finally giving up and accepting male auditions. Bass played Kris Downs soon joined.
The band did not finally form as "The Love Drunks" until poet and singer Patrick A joined. Patrick had just quit his politicore band The Agitators (US) which failed to take off.
The band recorded a four song, four track demo and began playing local shows. Soon they recorded a demo EP with the help of Mike Green from local band Light Pupil Dilate. At the same time, drummer Caycedo stopped practicing with the group to take care of his wife who was pregnant with their child. Caycedo returned to the group and the band began playing more regional shows.
In October 2004, the band played with another local garage band called The Cogburns. This started a friendship that would last well past the eventual end of the band.
In the summer of 2005, the band began recording their first album with the help of Glen Cogburn, The Cogburns lead singer.
As a joke, Holler sent a Myspace message to Alive Records asking them out on a date. Alive responded by listening to their tracks and asking them to sign with the label.
Prior to signing to Alive, drummer Dan Caycedo left the group to stay home with his family. He was replaced by Ryan Ozone, who recorded the bands only album, "The Love Drunks". Caycedo now owns DC Productions, a DIY show promotion company in Atlanta.
After Alive released The Love Drunks, the group booked two DIY tours across the USA, playing both coasts and the midwest.
In the summer of 2006, singer Patrick A. announced that he was leaving the band to start a booking agency called PAB Booking. Drummer Ryan Ozone also left the group, relocating to his home town of Lancaster, Ohio. Upon the departure of Patrick A. and Ozone, Alive Records stopped working with The Love Drunks.
Holler and Downs continued the group for a short period of time, working with local hardcore vocalist Danny Bondage. This collaboration failed to take off, and the group completely disbanded.
Patrick A. currently owns a tour agency called PAB Booking. He is now the singer and programmer for indie rock band Can Can, featuring Miss Mary from Atlanta garage band The Motolitas.
Michael Holler is putting together a new punk band called The Steady Singles. The band is not performing at this time.
Ryan Ozone lives in Lancaster, Ohio and is not performing at this time.
Kris "Koby Love" Downs works for Glen Cogburns at GIK Acoustics, a sound panel manufacturing company owned by the singer. He is also playing bass in The Cogburns.
