The Lost Tracks of Danzig
(2007)

The Lost Tracks of Danzig is a compilation album by American heavy metal band Danzig. Initially scheduled for release around November 2006, it will showcase a number of unreleased Danzig songs, ranging from the bands' first sessions in 1988 up until the sessions for Danzig's last studio album, Circle of Snakes. As of January 2007, the album remains unreleased, but its progress is still being talked about by frontman Glenn Danzig in various interviews. On January 6, 2007, Devilman138, the webmaster of the official Danzig fan site, posted an update stating that Glenn had shown him the final track listing and artwork for the album. The official Danzig site later announced that the double album will be released on May 29, 2007, and will include 26 tracks.[1]

Danzig has mentioned this in several interviews since 1999. Due to his touring schedule and various other projects, this album has been set aside several times. However, Danzig recently mentioned in an interview that after his touring obligations are up he will finally have the time to compile the album. Glenn on the set from an MTV.com article: "It's called The Lost Tracks of Danzig, and it's incredible," he said. "There'll be tons of old photos inside. There's a cover of Bowie's "Cat People" that no one's ever heard. There's a cover of T. Rex's "Buick Mackane" no one's ever heard, from the Danzig III sessions. Just tons of songs no one's ever heard, like "Bound by Blood" and some other tracks. People will just be blown away."

Glenn has said that he does not consider these songs throwaways, but that often the case was that the songs didn't fit the "theme" of the album. A good example would be the fan favorite "Black Angel, White Angel" from 2004's Circle of Snakes. Glenn states that, had the album had a "theme" like previous albums, "Black Angel, White Angel" more than likely would not have made the album.

[edit] Possible inclusions

The following listing of tracks are known songs that were recorded in various sessions that fans thought would be included in the final track listing. (Note: It's important to note that the song "When Death Had No Name", as well as the Elvis Presley cover "Trouble", were recorded at all sessions up until their release. The version of "When Death Had No Name" that was released on the "Dirty Black Summer" single was recorded during the Danzig III: How the Gods Kill sessions.)

[edit] From the recording sessions of Danzig:

  • "I'm The One" (Full band version. Danzig noted in the December 2006 issue of Revolver Magazine that this recording was never given to him by Rubin, and so it will not be included on the Lost Tracks album)
  • Prior to the first album sessions, an untitled song was recorded at a band rehearsal. Bassist Eerie Von has said this song was more of a jam session that never came to fruition. It is commonly bootlegged as "Night of Hate" or "Die For the Demon". It us unknown if this song will make the set.
  • "Pain is Like an Animal"
  • "Trouble" (Elvis Presley cover)
  • "When Death Had No Name"

[edit] From the recording sessions of Danzig II: Lucifuge:

  • "Angel of the Seventh Dawn"
  • "Cold, Cold Rain"
  • "I'm the One (Full band version)"
  • "The Other Side"
  • "Trouble (Elvis Presley cover)"
  • "When Death Had No Name"

[edit] From the recording sessions of Danzig III: How the Gods Kill:

  • "Buick MacKane" (T. Rex cover)
  • "Love and Pain" (According to Devilman138, this song will be featured on the Lost Tracks album under the title, "Pain is Like an Animal")
  • "Trouble" (Elvis Presley cover)

[edit] From the recording sessions of Danzig 4p:

  • "Pain is Such a Loving Thing" (According to Devilman138, this is the same song as "Love and Pain", and will be featured on the Lost Tracks album under the title, "Pain is Like an Animal")
  • "White Devil Rise"
  • "Satan's Crucifixion Points to Hell"
  • According to the The Misfits Central recording sessions guide, two other songs were recorded that did not make the album. This guide does not list "Satan's Crucifixion Points to Hell", thus it may only be one other track.

[edit] From the recording sessions of 5: Blackacidevil:

  • "Come To Silver" ("Clean" acoustic version. The original vocal track was lost, so Danzig re-recorded the vocals in 2006)
  • "Warlock" (Danzig stated this track was from the Danzig 5 session in the February 2007 issue of Metal Maniacs)
  • "White Devil Rise"

[edit] From the recording sessions of Bleedangel EP:

  • "Bloodfeast" (The Misfits cover)*
  • "Caught in My Eye" (The Germs cover)
  • "Five Finger Crawl" (Early version, later re-recorded for 6:66 Satan's Child)
  • It has been said by former Danzig bassist Josh Lazie that a cover of the Misfits "Bloodfeast" was recorded at this session. While this is likely the case, Glenn has denied its existence. According to the Misfits Central recording sessions guide, another Misfits song may have been recorded as well. Devilman138 has confirmed that this track will not be included on the Lost Tracks album.

[edit] From the recording sessions of 6:66 Satan's Child:

  • "Bleedangel" (The version on new pressings of 5: Blackacidevil are from the previous Bleedangel EP sessions. This version is unreleased.)
  • "Crawl Across Your Killing Floor" (A video for this song was filmed in the summer of 2006 to promote the Lost Tracks of Danzig album.)
  • "I Know Your Lie"
  • "Kill March" (Later reworked to be "Halo Goddess Bone" on 777: I Luciferi)
  • "Lies"
  • "Zodiac Summer"
  • According to the Misfits Central recording sessions guide, two other songs were recorded that did not make the album. This guide does not list "Crawl Across Your Killing Floor", thus it may only be one other track.

[edit] From the recording sessions of 777: I Luciferi:

  • "Bound by Blood"
  • "Cat People" (David Bowie cover)
  • "Dark Secret Side"
  • "Dying Serph"
  • "Malefical Bride of Hell"
  • "Soul Eater"

[edit] Confusion over "Satan's Crucifixion Points to Hell"

Around the release of Danzig 4, a "goof song" entitled "Crucifixion Destruction" was said to be written (but unrecorded) to scare Danzig's record company. Eerie Von later briefly mentioned the song in an interview. However, later, Glenn said no song entitled "Crucifixion Destruction" existed. This is more than likely due to the song actually being called "Satan's Crucifixion Points to Hell". While it was initially said the song was unrecorded, Glenn confirmed in recent interviews that it was indeed recorded during the Danzig 4 sessions and will feature on The Lost Tracks of Danzig set.
