The Laurel Incident
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Laurel incident occurred when the United States intercepted a letter of congratulation from Spain's foreign ministry to Philipino Dictator José Laurel on October 18, 1943.
The United States used the incident to put pressure on Spain to stop selling tungsten to Germany and to withdrawn the Blue Division from the Eastern Front. Thus it marked an important turning point in Spain's foreign policy during the Second World War.
