[edit] Episode Summary

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[edit] Primary Plot

Fran, the coolest girl in school (even more cool than Jerri's former arch-rival, the captain of the cheerleading squad), bets that her coolness is of such great propensity that she could make anybody cool. Jerri, the lamest person in school, becomes the subject of the experiment and Fran strives to make her "frosty."

Jerri is eventually made over, but in the process she is made to drop her old friends to hang out with her cool, new friends. At the end of the episode Jerri realizes that she misses her old friends and despite looking better, and being happy with popular firends, her old, plain friends cared about her more than her new friends.

[edit] Secondary Plot

In this episode the school board is converting Flatpoint High into a strip mall secretly without informing Principal Blackman. Although the school board assures Blackman that they arent closing down Flatpoint High, he slowly becomes suspicious when many of his teachers and students are buying food and other items that would generally be located in a strip mall.

Near the end, Blackman along with Mr. Jellineck, Mr. Noblet, Jerri, and many other students set the school on fire in an attempt to prevent the school from becoming a strip mall. After the school is destroyed, Principal Blackman, Noblet and Jellineck go with Jerri back to the streets to avoid the police that are pursuing them. Thus, concluding the Comedy Central series, Strangers with Candy.

[edit] Trivia

  • The writers of this episode, Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello, specifically wrote this episode to spoof the new series Comedy Central was replacing them with called Strip Mall. That storyline also spoofed Comedy Central's notorious tendency to not tell series producers that their shows were being cancelled, hence that the board was not telling Blackman about the school's conversion. See the commentary of this episode for more information.
  • Stephen Colbert was once an avid Dungeons & Dragons player, and was upset over the fictitious manner in which D&D was shown in this episode.
  • This is the only episode where Amy Sedaris appears out of her traditional Jerri Blank make-up.
  • Rights to the Beck song used in the credits were obtained easily because he was dating Winona Ryder, the guest star of this episode, at the time.
  • Noblet and Jellineck officially come out as lovers in this episode.
