The Julia and David White Artists' Colony

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Julia and David White Artists' Colony is an artists' colony in Ciudad Colon, Costa Rica. It was established in 1998 by Dr. William L. White as a memorial to his two children: Julia Lynne and David Ellis. Both died at young ages: Julia committed suicide at 29, and David succumbed to a drug overdose at 31.

The Colony offers residencies, often a month or longer, to a variety of artists including writers, visual artists, and composers. There is also a communal building, Las Nueve Muses (The Nine Muses) on-site, as well as a tennis court, swimming pool, and hiking paths. It is walking distance from the center of Ciudad Colon, home to 10,000 people, and a short bus ride from San José.
