The Jester Race is an album by the melodic death metal band In Flames. It was released in 1996. The Jester Race is still considered to be one of the most influential melodic death metal albums. It is also the first concept album by In Flames, and the first to feature Anders Fridén as the band's vocalist. The general theme that runs through the album is that of human weakness, failure, and arrogance. Humans are referred to as jesters who corrupt and destroy the "all-mother" (mother earth). A video for the song "Artifacts of the Black Rain" was also released.
