[edit] History

Logan Day, director of the band, invited 22 selected students from the Brownsburg area to form an independent jazz band on June 4, 2005. Starting off as just an idea, the band performed for families of the band with little profit. Within months, the band became a hit with the town and was welcomed as a group of talented students.

Soon after, the band was invited to the Indiana State Museum near White River to entertained their guests as they walked down the canal. The word of the band was soon spread across the state.

The group then was invited to play in the Indianapolis Mini-Marathon. The group was commented on by arrangers of the event, saying the runners were happy to see a new taste of music to the track, and they invited them to perform there again the next year.

During a school function, the band set up a location to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina Relief. The spectators were happy to donate money to the relief effort, and to listen to the local band that was becoming an important part of the community.

The Jazz Katz then entered a local "Race for The Cure" where runners were helping raise money for cancer. During the event, a concert was held with all the bands in the Brownsburg area to entertain the runners, and to see who was the best group of musicians. The Jazz Katz won the event and raised the most money, earning them a spot in the Hendricks County Flyer.

In the summer of 2006, the band entered the "Youth Talent" contest at the Indiana State Fair. The band performed the song "Brick House" which awarded them first prize in the event.

Soon after that, the band was invited by the Monroe Bank to perform for the opening of their new bank. During the event there were festivities for the children and the adults were invited to set up accounts with the bank.
