[edit] Synopsis
Captain Blue is drugged and regains consciousness in the deserted Cloudbase control room. Informed that he has been missing for three months by a shifty Spectrum Intelligence agent, he is urged to prove his identity by revealing top-secret cipher codes. Can Blue play for time while he tries to work out what is going on?
[edit] Plot
Captain Scarlet and Captain Blue, off-duty, are coming to the end of a meal in a tranquil restaurant. Scarlet declines the waiter’s offer of a drink but Blue asks for coffee. However, after a few sips from his mug, Blue begins to feel nauseous. Scarlet proposes that they leave immediately and collects their coats, but when he turns back towards their table, his friend has disappeared. Meanwhile, the Mysterons warn Spectrum that a member of their organisation will betray them all.
Blue regains consciousness in what appears to be Lieutenant Green’s seat in Cloudbase control. Greeted awkwardly by Colgan, a Spectrum Intelligence agent, who is seated Colonel White’s desk, Blue questions the lack of people but is told that his colleagues are "around". Colgan adds that he has been missing for three months and Blue deduces that his coffee was drugged. However, Colgan is not convinced of Blue’s identity and demands details of the Spectrum cipher codes. Refusing to divulge top-secret information, Blue attempts to persuade the Intelligence officer by recalling the Mysteron attempt to the destroy London ("Big Ben Strikes Again"). However, it is dismissed by Colgan, who declares that it is of no use in verifying the captain’s identity.
Colgan then mentions the mission to destroy the Mysteron complex on the Moon ("Crater 101"). Knowing that he was on the mission, Blue tries to prove himself for a second time, but Colgan doubts the value of the recollection because the story was heavily publicised in the media.
While his challenger grows increasingly impatient, Blue avoids another command to reveal the cipher codes by discussing the Mysteron threat to assassinate Earth’s top military commanders ("The Trap"). Again, his story is rejected by Colgan, who refuses to accept Blue’s identity even though the events never became public knowledge.
Blue demands that Colgan check his photograph, but the Intelligence officer attributes the likeness to plastic surgery. He also refuses to summon either Captain Scarlet or Colonel White as witnesses. However, when Blue reminds him that fingerprints cannot be surgically altered, Colgan loses his temper and accidentally addresses Blue by his Spectrum codename. His suspicions confirmed, Blue realises that the man is an impostor and insists that he see Colonel White. However, as Blue tries to escape, Colgan presses an alarm and a second man enters the control room, armed with a gun and a hypodermic syringe. Colgan warns that it contains a powerful truth-telling drug and orders Blue to reveal the code, but the Spectrum officer smashes his way through an observation window before the gunman can react. Blue lands on a painted sky background and discovers that he was actually being held in a replica of Cloudbase, constructed inside what appears to be a disused warehouse.
Outside, Captain Scarlet pulls up in an SPV. He instructs Blue to get clear before completely destroying the warehouse with the vehicle’s cannon. Blue realises that his two captors were none other than Mysteron agents and admits that he was almost tricked into disclosing top-secret information. Scarlet reveals that he was missing for only a few hours before Spectrum managed to locate him, and promises that he will listen to his story back onboard the real Cloudbase.
