[edit] Activities
Many meetings have a workshop or activity related to film:
- film screenings
- lighting workshop
- comedy writing workshop
- Bentley workshop
- acting workshop
- directed reading
Some meetings are in cooperation with another group or organization.
[edit] Regular meetings
Regular meetings are open to the general public and are held at 7:30 p.m. at the Westport Coffeehouse in Westport, 4010 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO 64111. There have been requests to hold the meetings at other locations and one was held in Lawrence, Kansas in 2005. Occasionally meetings will be cancelled for weather. Near a holiday a regular meeting may be replaced with a social event or less often cancelled.
A regular meeting starts with announcements from each board member and any preapproved person.
After all announcements new attendees, "those who have never been to an IFC meeting or haven't been to one in a long time," are asked to stand and give their name. New attendees are given a membership brousure. Attendees are not required to join. There is also an opportunity for attendees to make "shameless self-promotions," which is an attendee's opportunity to talk about any film-related projects.
Next if there is an activity scheduled it begins after a short break.
[edit] Socialization
Most members get to know each other through volunteering to work on events.
IFC members and others interested in film often meet at a local bar after regular meetings.
