Mr. Freeze reappears and he and The Penguin fight over the same mysterious jewel-encrusted umbrella. The Batman not only has to attempt to stop the two rogues, but save Alfred as well when he gets mixed up in the conflict.

[edit] Plot summary

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

At an auction, a rare jewel-inlaid umbrella is put up for bid but as the high bidder is ready to take the prize, they’re interrupted when the Penguin shows up and takes it. The Batman interrupts him and knocks him into a fountain, which freezes. It’s…Mr. Freeze, there for the umbrella as well.

Freeze makes his escape on an ice bridge but Batman lands in front of him using boot spikes to keep his footing. Freeze opens fire and the two battle on the bridge. Mr. Freeze freezes the handle of the umbrella to the bridge while he fights. The Penguin breaks free and charges, shattering the bridge and the ice on the umbrella. Mr. Freeze grabs the ice around the handle and escapes, letting the umbrella itself fall. The Penguin manages to land and finds the umbrella missing, then flies off, unaware that the high bidder from the auction grabbed it.

At Wayne Manor, the high bidder appears and introduces himself as Ewan Frip, an old class friend of Alfred’s and a collector of ancient relics. He needs a book in the Wayne library. Using the pieces of ice from around the handle, Mr. Freeze creates a replica and gets three numbers. Ewan is off to look for the treasure and Bruce insists that Alfred go with him after the treasure, stolen from the Royal Palace by the Cobblepots in 1879.

Bruce is analyzing the handle and spots the numbers as well and figures out they led to a location in Gotham’s old utility tunnels. The Penguin is on the trail as well and interrupts them, having followed them to his “family fortune.” Alfred signals Bruce, who has figured out what Ewan is up to and the location from the vault.

Ewan boasts that the Penguin can’t open the vault without his help but the Penguin takes the umbrella from him and uses it as a key to open the door. He goes in but the chamber is empty except for a single small piece of glass. While the Penguin searches the room, Ewan locks the door and then uses the umbrella, the square of glass, and a flashlight to provide the coordinates to the real treasure at a lighthouse. They’re interrupted when the Penguin blasts his way free. They split up and Ewan gives Alfred the umbrella. The Penguin catches up to Ewan, who tells him to go after Alfred with the umbrella.

Making his way through the sewer tunnels, Alfred runs into Mr. Freeze who forces him to take him to the lighthouse. Once there, Alfred uses the umbrella to determine the point in the harbor where the four landmarks meet. The Penguin arrives with Ewan in a boat and goes to the spot and the Penguin prepares to dive in. Mr. Freeze freezes the water and Alfred loses his communicator – fortunately Batman is approaching by submarine but is caught in the rapidly freezing harbor. Freeze goes to the bottom via an icy tunnel with the Penguin in pursuit

Alfred demands to know what Ewan is up to while Batman superheats the submarine to break through the ice, then frees Alfred. Batman goes down the tunnel and Ewan follows – Alfred reluctantly goes after him as well.

The Penguin finds the treasure ship but Mr. Freeze is already there and has the Tudor Royal Diamonds. The Penguin hits him with a burst of flame from his umbrella but Freeze recovers and the two fight within the ship. Batman arrives and a three-way fight breaks out while Alfred prepares to fight with Ewan. The ice starts to melt, threatening them all, and Ewan runs for the treasure. Mr. Freeze and the Penguin refuse to yield while Ewan decides to get out with Batman and Alfred. The ship collapses and Freeze and Penguin are washed to the surface while the diamonds are lost. Ewan regrets the lost of the treasure and Alfred tells him to get lost, while Batman takes off into the sunrise.

Spoilers end here.
