[edit] Plot
At the annual flea market, the students find Sunny Bridges' senior yearbook; Sunny notices they have it and quickly takes it away, accidentally leaving behind a map. Lil'D is convinced that Sunny is a pirate when he sees Sunny with a "hook hand" (actually a hanger stuck in his sleeve) and half off sunglasses (glasses with only one lens), and when Bianca spells his last name "Blidges" instead of "Bridges" and he yells "R! R! It's R! R, I say!". The students follow the map right into their classroom and wonder why they've never seen the X before. The janitor tells them not to look for the thing that lives under the school, but they ignore him. Once under the school, they find a huge room full of chocolate treasure. They realize that it isn't the treasure and see a door from across the room and open it, upon which a giant blob jumps out. Right after that there is a Pac-Man-like montage (with Eddie making the infamous "wakka, wakka, wakka" noises) and they run into Sunny, who helps them destroy the giant blob by using funk music.
[edit] Blob's origin
Sunny and his band were rehearsing in the Westley school basement when the sloppy joe factory pipes and the toxic waste pipes burst. Sunny patched up the holes with his hair gel, but some of the mix had already leaked out of the pipes. The toxic waste mixed with the sloppy joe slime and formed a giant blob. Sunny's band decided to lock up the door and never speak of it again. It was never seen again until Lil' D and the gang defeated it by turning it into a huge sloppy joe and selling it.
[edit] Song
The song in this episode is "Fight the Blob".
[edit] Trivia/Goofs
- Running Gags:
- Madison telling everybody what everybody else told her not to tell anybody else.
- Madison picking up something (a record, then an eight-track tape), saying "I know what this is for!" and then throwing it offscreen, where it hits someone in the eye.
- Eddie saying "wokka, wokka, wokka,"
- Philly Phil pulls cherries out of the hole, after the "Pac-Man" parody scene.
- The class saying "Lemme see that!" and taking the treasure map from the person holding it.
- We learn Eddie says "wokka, wokka, wokka" when he is scared. Apparently so does Sunny after he runs away from the blob.
- Madison tried to close the door to the room the blob came out of, but Philly Phil blasted the door off of it's hinges.
- Cheddar Man said the title of one his movie is The Lion, The Witch, and the Cheddar Man, although the title said The Lion, The Witch, and the Cheddar.
- In this episode, Principal Luna states that Lil' D and the others have been at this school for a few years, when he says, "Last year's bake sale caused the fire damage." and the flashback showed them putting out a fire. but in "Funky Monkey", they are only first years. This may mean that the show is set in springtime, because school years overlap two years.
- For a brief secence they found a secret place just like the book The Girl Who Owned a City.
- The entrance to the secret passage is concealed under a large, noticeable "X" in the center of the classroom. But the children say that they've never seen it before. This "X" has not been seen before or after this episode.
- It was revealed in this episode that Bianca, the flower shop owner, is not Madison's mother. When Madison asks to have her name put on a grain of rice, Bianca asks what Madison's name is; and refers to her as "Little Girl."
- We learn that Cheddar Man likes to remake successful movies with his name on it, such as Harry Cheddar, The Lion, The Witch, and the Cheddar Man, and Cheddar Man and the Chocolate Factory. These are references to Harry Potter, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
- Cheddar Man plays every character in all of his movies.
- LiL' D's hat changes after the commercial break from a sailor's hat to an explorer hat.
- Madison asks"You can use music to bust open a floor?"This is a possible reference to the term"the power of music."
- We learn that Philly Phil is 13 years old when Eddie says "You know guys, as we stand here watching a 13-year old apply high grade explosives to a growling door, I'm starting to get second-".
