The Hughleys
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hughleys was an American sitcom that aired on ABC from 1998 to 2000 and on UPN from 2000 to 2002. Many believed that the show was moved from ABC to UPN, because ABC felt The Hughleys was too racial for their television network. ABC tried to cancel the show because they felt it was too offensive. UPN then picked up the show and was a perfect match. Starring in the series were D.L. Hughley and Elise Neal. It is one of the first shows to ever transfer from a major "Big 4" network to a smaller "netlet."
The plot is centered on Darryl and Yvonne (D.L. and Elise, respectively) moving into a primarily white suburb after Darryl becomes a successful vending machine salesman and starts his own company. They try to adapt to having things better than they are used to and raising their two children - Michael and Sydney. Darryl's friend Milsap (John Henton) (from the "old neighborhood") often stopped by to help them out.
