The Hot Spot is a 1990 American drama and romance film directed by Dennis Hopper and starring Don Johnson, Virginia Madsen, and Jennifer Connelly. It's based on a book by Charles Williams.

Harry Madox (Johnson) moves to a small Texas town and gets a job as a local used car retailer. He looks for an opportunity to rob the local bank. His boss' wife (Madsen) finds out about his plan and wants to use him for her own advantage, but problems arise when he also begins to fall in love with the accountant (Connelly) at work.

This was the sixth film that was directed by Dennis Hopper. His directorial ventures have been met with various levels of critical success. His directorial debut Easy Rider set the stage to influence many filmmakers to come. His film Colors, filmed two years before this film, also met with critical accolades. The Hot Spot grossed only $1,293,976 in the United States, however. This was far less than the cost of its production. In many interviews, Hopper blamed the failure of this film on Don Johnson, who refused to go out and promote this film to the media. Whether or not this was the cause of this film's financial failure is debatable. Since this film, Hopper has only directed one additional feature film, the 1994 Chasers.
