The Horse Flies are an American alternative rock/folk band, founded in the late 1970s under the name 'Tompkins County Horseflies'^[1] by husband and wife Jeff Claus and Judy Hyman, Rich Stearns and John Hayward.

Hayward, the band's bassist, died in 1997 ^[2]. The Flies' current lineup consists of:

• Judy Hyman: violin, vocals
• Jeff Claus: guitar, banjo uke, vocals
• Rich Stearns: banjo, vocals
• Taki Masuko: percussion
• Jay Olsa: bass
• Rick Hansen: accordion, organ

Claus's song 'Sally Ann' was covered by Natalie Merchant on her 2003 album The House Carpenter's Daughter.
