The Horse Flies are an American alternative rock/folk band, founded in the late 1970s under the name 'Tompkins County Horseflies' by husband and wife Jeff Claus and Judy Hyman, Rich Stearns and John Hayward.
Hayward, the band's bassist, died in 1997
. The Flies' current lineup consists of:- Judy Hyman: violin, vocals
- Jeff Claus: guitar, banjo uke, vocals
- Rich Stearns: banjo, vocals
- Taki Masuko: percussion
- Jay Olsa: bass
- Rick Hansen: accordion, organ
Claus's song 'Sally Ann' was covered by Natalie Merchant on her 2003 album The House Carpenter's Daughter.
