The Horn and Hardart Children's Hour

The Horn and Hardart Children's Hour (later known as just The Children's Hour) was a variety show with children performing, some to later become quite famous. It was broadcast on WCAU Radio in Philadelphia beginning 1927, hosted by Stan Lee Broza. It was later also broadcast on NBC Radio in New York in the 1940s and 1950s; the original New York host was Paul Douglass, followed by Ralph Edwards and ultimately, Ed Herlihy. It made its debut on broadcast television on WCAU TV in Philadelphia in 1948 and on WNBT TV in New York in 1949 on Sunday Mornings. The host was Stan Lee Broza in Philadelphia and Ed Herlihy in New York. The program was sponsored by Horn and Hardart, a firm which owned automats in New York and Philadelphia. A number of performers became quite successful after their work on the Philadelphia TV series, including Kitty Kallen (MOR recording star of the 50s ), Ezra Stone (Radio's original Henry Aldrich), Ted Arnold (musician- musical director for Glenn Yarbrough and Jose Feliciano).
