[edit] History
Established in 1914, the HKFA organizes several football competitions, which are probably the oldest ones in Asia, for all the professionals, amateurs and youngsters in Hong Kong.
In 1954, the HKFA joined FIFA, and was also one of twelve founding associations of the Asian Football Confederation. Hong Kong took an important part in the early development of Asian football, and was given the honour of holding the first Asian Cup competition in 1956.
In the Summer of 2005, the Hong Kong National team played against Manchester United.
The most popular player on the team is Fan Chun Yip, the team's goalkeeper.
The HKFA is also responsible for operating the Hong Kong football team (Chinese: 香港足球代表隊), which competes in international football events under the team name of "Hong Kong, China".
The HKFA is currently led by the Hon. Timothy Fok SBS JP.
